The response of the lipid profile and liver histology of high fat diet male sprague-dawley (Rattus norvegicus) rats upon treatment of circulan 4 in 1

The study aims to qualitatively evaluate the presence of favoring fatty liver disease changes in the liver histology as well as descriptively compare blood lipid profile levels of male Sprague-Dawley rats fed with a normal diet and high fat diet upon treatment of Circulan. 36 male, 6 months old, Spr...

The study aims to qualitatively evaluate the presence of favoring fatty liver disease changes in the liver histology as well as descriptively compare blood lipid profile levels of male Sprague-Dawley rats fed with a normal diet and high fat diet upon treatment of Circulan. 36 male, 6 months old, Sprague-Dawley rats were utilized in this study which were randomly assigned to six groups each with 6 rats. The first three groups were fed with normal diet, one group was just orally gavaged with plain corn oil which served as a negative control group, while the other two with different dosages of Circulan 4 in 1. The three remaining groups were fed with high fat diet, one group was just orally gavaged with plain corn oil which served as a positive control group, while the other two with different dosages. Blood samples were collected through cardiac puncture for analysis of total serum cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglyceride levels. The liver was excised, placed in 10% formalin and was submitted for histological mounting and histopathologic analyses. The liver sections were qualitatively analyzed and the lipid profiles were compared with the values of the controlled samples. The results based on the liver sections showed that there were changes favoring the diagnosis of fatty liver disease. Based on the descriptive comparison of the lipid profile results the groups treated with Circulan obtained a lower Serum Cholesterol and LDL level than the control groups and HDL level were higher for the groups treated with Circulan than the control Groups. Further studies and additional histological, biochemical, and toxicological parameters must be employed to determine the effects Circulan 4 in 1 on the lipid metabolism of male Sprague-Dawley rats on high fat diet. For future studies, it is also then recommended that individual blood samples instead of pooled blood samples per treatment group be utilized for the lipid profile in order to be able to conduct a statistical analysis in evaluating lipid profile results. 2009-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/2461 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Biology
