Shift work and sleeping pattern among workers in a textile factory located in Sitio Malabon, Valenzuela City, Philippines

Factory workers are working in an industrial building wherein they manufacture goods or supervise the machines. Forty randomly selected textile factory workers in Valenzuela city were selected and surveyed. Among the top three health complaints, headache (30%) was the major problem followed by aching muscle (25%) and insomnia (23%). Males have more problems related to sleep disorder like interrupted sleep, difficulty in sleeping, and drowsiness during work. Maladjustment of the biological clock can lead to circadian rhythm sleeping disorder which can lead them to have difficulty in sleeping or frequently waking up during the night. The mean glucose level of the day shift (106.62 mg/dL) is higher compare to the mean glucose level of night shift (96.76 mg/dL). Night shift workers have higher chances of having health problems because both the systolic and diastolic blood pressures of the nights shift are much higher compared to that of the day shift. It showed that night shift was a risk factor for an increase in blood pressure.
