Summary: | This study is an in-depth analysis of the photos of women in FHM Philippines. Following Roland Barthes notion of Mythologies as framework, it seeks to relay to readers the signs and myths that are present in the photographs also through the aid of concepts from body language and facial expression interpretation. Veering away from the long existing debate whether FHM Philippines is exploitation or empowerment of women, the study also demythologizes the pictures and through this process, determines how Filipinas are really represented in the magazine. Furthermore, this study also serve as a commentary to the Philippine mass culture, as FHM Philippines is one of the most bought magazines in the country, and how it is a big influence in shaping the Filipinos and the Filipinas personalities, and particularly, sexualities. |
