Description
Summary:This thesis applies the poetics of the author to the work itself, showing how Alfred Yuson manifests in his novel, Great Philippine Jungle Energy Cafe. By conducting a writer-interview with questions revolving around the novel, we are able to understand not so much the author's purpose, but his writing process, ideology, and inspirations. The novel is set in two eras: The Philippine Revolution of 1896 and the People Power Revolution of 1986. The main protagonist is Leon Kilat, a prominent revolutionary figure who led the revolts in Cebu. The novel is surrealistic and semi-autobiographical, while telescoping Philippine history and culture. Based on Yuson's answers and a close reading of the novel, we are able to see how Yuson has incorporated his ideas in the text, and how he has manifested within his own story.
