Summary: | This thesis is an inquiry into how the conventions of the Western Hardboiled tradition are reimaged and reappropriated in Charlson Ong novel Blue Angel, White Shadow (UST Publishing House, 2010). It takes a look at the novel divergences through the concepts of the Metaphysical and the Multicultural Detective novel. The result is an exploration of Ong novel that reveals how the novel is able to bring the Filipino experience into a traditionally Western narrative, subvert readers expectations of the genre, and question assumptions made the traditional Western hardboiled narrative. |
