This thesis is a study of double consciousness on Charlon Ong's Banyaga: A song of War. The idea from the novel is that a Filipino-Chinese is neither a Filipino nor a Chinese but rather a unique blend of the two distinct identities after they have been negotiated and reconciled. That is why, it can be said that Charlon Ong is saying that the Filipino-Chinese is both a foreigner and a citizen as presented in his work. The aim is to perform a close reading on the novel by applying W. E. B. Du Bois' theory of double consciousness and to see how Du Bois' theory is manifested in the chosen literary work in order for the conceptualization of a new identity and a new definition of a Filipino-Chinese. This can be done by performing a close reading of the chosen novel in light of W. E. B. Du Bois' double consciousness and focusing on the characters namely Hilario Ong (Ong Tian Puy or Ah Puy), Antonio Limpoco (Lim Sian Beng or Ah Beng), Samuel Lee (Lee Hap Sur or Ah Sun), and Fernando de Lolariaga (Lee Hap Tin or Ah Tin). 2014-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/2678 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Comparative Literature
