Dengue is a major public health concern in the Philippines most especially in Metro Manila. With this, the aim of this study is to determine the incidence rate of reported dengue cases in Metro Manila for the year 2012. Geographic Information System (GIS) was utilized to visualize the distribution of incidence rate in different cities and barangays of Metro Manila. Data were collected from the National Statistics Office (NSO) and National Epidemiology Center (NEC) for the population of Metro Manila and reported dengue cases in 2012, respectively. The incidence rate was calculated and Quantum GIS was employed to create the visual map. Results revealed that a high incidence rate was observed in cities like Pasig, Pateros, Valenzuela and Manila. In the barangay level, most barangays in the City of Manila and Pasay City have the highest incidence rate. Further investigation revealed that these cities and barangays found to have high dengue incidence are flood prone areas such environmental factor can be suited to the vector development. Crowding can also contribute to the high incidence of dengue cases, which is evident in the City of Manila and Pasay City. The use of GIS can further assist in understanding the distribution of dengue cases in Metro Manila. Data from the respected government institutions can be used further to create visual maps that will aid toward better prevention and control. 2013-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/2755 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Health Information Technology
