Description
Summary:The effect of Sechium edule extract in the weight of Mus musculus on a per week basis was investigated in this study. Mice were orally administered with distilled water for control groups and different concentrations of Sechium edule extract for the treatment groups. All groups of mice were given a daily dose of 5 mL of the designated fluid/1 kg of body weight. Mice that belong to the control groups received 10 and 5 grams of food respectively, and were forcibly fed with distilled water. For each measurement, the average weight levels of mice increased. Experimental groups received 25, 50 and 100 percent concentration of Sechium edule extract. Mice that received the extract demonstrated a decrease in average weight in every week. The one-tailed students t-test (α=0.05) showed that mice within the experimental groups mostly manifested a significant reduction per week. One-way ANOVA and Scheffe test demonstrated that the differences in weight of mice among the groups are significantly different per week. However, the weight loss value decreases for every week of measurement. This indicates that regular intake of Sechium edule extract lowers the weight of Mus musculus, but a reduced effect becomes manifested in each succeeding week.
