Description
Summary:Unencumbered : A poetry collection is a creative writing thesis framed by Gaston Bachelard's Poetics of space. This project primarily seeks answers to two questions: How does the myth of the home, and its implications of intimacy and protection, extend towards a greater urban landscape? and Is the home a fixed ideal rooted in a particular space? This collection is comprised of 25 poems, written mostly in English, will explore two cities, Sydney and Manila, as sites of both intimacy and enmity. In doing so, it will also deal with the difficulties of migration, city living, the nuances of language, and the binaries that co-exist within the urban sphere such as: isolation/community, and stasis/progress. The proposal attempts to navigate through the tradition, poetics and personal experiences that have shape the poems.
