Summary:During earthquake, buried pipelines are excited and agitated resulting to failure. That type of failure happens when the ground strain is bigger than the strain carried by the buried pipe under longer periods of seismic loading. In this paper, seismic reliability of a buried water lifeline network of a small city is determined. The concession area of Surigao Metro Water District, SMWD is chosen as the subject of the study. Probabilistic sesimic hazard analysis of the area is determined to identify the seismic forces acting on the structure considered. From there, a uniform hazard response spectra was generated to determine the actual seismic forces acting on the structure for each period. Eight (8) different pipe diameters were considered in this study (5, 7.5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 35, 40 cm) for reliability analysis. Pipes were analyzed based on three damage states: major, moderate and minor damage state. The probability of damage of pipes for each damage state was illustrated by fragility curves simulated using Monte Carlo. The result of the study showed that pipes with smaller diameters were more prone to damage in comparison to pipes with bigger diameter. Moreover, it showed that minor damage state was the governing damage state for the system under seismic loading.
