| Summary: | One cannot ignore the fact that there is already quite an amount of Philippine novels in Englsih published nationally and internationally. There is also an amount of critical essays and studies written on these said novels, but how do critics usually approach these novels? What do they usually say when they approach a certain genre or work? The problem being presented in this situation is not the lack of critical studies on Philippine novels in English but rather of systematic inquiry on these said critical studies. The researcher aims to list down and collect, if possible, all critical essays, books, and articles on the Philippine novel in English. From there, the researcher would arrange these essays in two ways: (1) chronologically and, (2) alphabetically, according to the critics' names and the novelists mentioned. Afterwards, she will analyze the critical essays and studies. After the researcher reads the essays alongside each other, she would work towards configuring the paradigm of critical practice on Philippine literature, specifically the Philippine novels in English. The aims of this thesis are to produce (1) a comprehensive bibliography of critical essays on Philippine novels in English and (2) an extensive and cirtical essay that decribes and maps the paradigm of Philippine criticism on Philippine novels in English from 1980 up until the 2015. |
