Description
Summary:Sarah's search for friends is a children's book targeted to 7-9 year-olds that aims to help children without the disabiltiy understand how children with Asperger's Syndrome (AS) see the world. Asperger's Syndrome is a high-functioning developmental disorder characterized by one's difficulty in social interaction and processing sensory information. Sarah, the main character has AS and finds it difficult to interact with her new classmates whom she wants to befriend. Because of her disabilities and differences, the other children shun her and refuse to interact with her despite her advances. The objective is to have children understand other children with Asperger's and be more accepting of them by showing how Sarah perceives the world. The book also shows the behavior that a child with the disorder may exhibit. Data was gathered online from different news article, documentaries, journals, vlogs, and other educational material to properly showcase the different behaviors of children with Asperger's Syndrome. The full story was later reviewed and approved by psychiatrist, Dr. Jose JV Cruz, MD.
