The poems in this collection explore paradoxical concepts encountered in life such as freedom in confinement, life in death, and identity from the perspective of a hybrid culture. The collection is primarily written in free verse with the exception of a ghazal. It reflects on the ramifications of the currently rapidly changing socio-economic reality being experienced by the Philippine community, coupled with the increasing integration and influence of other cultures because of globalization. Chinese-Filipino cultural imagery is used as the center point of the poems to convey thoughts and observations regarding the Chinese-Filipino community. The collection questions what it means to be Chinese-Filipino and what it means to be neither Chinese nor Filipino, but as hybrid that doesn't fit seamlessly in either category. 2018-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/2946 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Poetry--Collections Comparative Literature |
