Summary: | The local game development scene has grown significantly since the early 2000s wherein members who were once hobbyist have grown it to its own industry. As such, Southeast Asia is growing into a booming market in the game industry thanks to countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and notably the Philippines, with many developers gaining acclaim at international game competitions such as the Independent Game Festival, International Mobile Gaming Awards, and SEA Game Awards.
However, although the local industry is thriving on the development of local talent and the acquisition of international beneficiaries, much of the independent scene's activity has been under the radar of the public eye. The local industry and community is rarely represented in the mainstream eye aside from press releases.
As such, through purposive sampling, the proponent contacted local independent developers and members of the community, to guest on the podcast series, to give them a personal platform to talk about their games, their experiences as gamers/developers and local industry.
The podcast aimed to provide a consumable format in which consumers from average gamers to other hobbyist developers can learn about the local industry to potentially become interested in supporting the scene. |
