Description
Summary:A study was conducted at the DLSU Marine Biological Station at Matuod, Lian, Batangas to determine the productivity of phytoplanktons as well as the population patterns of macrobenthic algae. Four sampling sites were considered in measuring phytoplankton productivity and studying macrobenthic algae population for five sampling periods from September 7, 1991 to November 9, 1991. The Light and Dark bottle method was used in order to measure the productivity of phytoplanktons. A relationship was observed between the phytoplankton productivity and the physico-chemical parameters. Population density and dispersion were determined for macrobenthic algae study. The one-way ANOVA shows that the differences in the net productivity of the phytoplankton and the density of the macrobenthic algae in the different sampling sites were proven to be insignificant. Due to short intervals in sampling periods, it was assumed that the differences in net productivity and the macrobenthic algae density in different sampling periods were also insignificant. Therefore, the different environmental factors affecting the algal species were evenly distributed among the sampling sites and throughout the study period.
