Santos, Etheldreda Screening of Bauhinia purpurea Linn. (Alibangbang) as a potential source of dye was undertaken. The screening involved extraction of fresh leaves of alibangbang through boiling. The prepared extract included: alibangbang concentrate and alibangbang dried extract. The extracted matter was applied on different kinds of yarns such as 100 percent cotton, 100 percent polyester and acrylic. The dyed yarns were tested for their color fastness subjected to different agencies such as exposure to sunlight, washing with Perla soap and water, soda boil, 10 percent sodium carbonate, ammonia and acetic acid. The cotton and acrylic dyed with alibangbang dried extract showed darker colors than those observed using alibangbang concentrate which showed dull colors. Satisfactory ratings for color fastness particularly on cotton and acrylic were obtained with 3 percent potassium dichromate, 4 percent potassium dichromate, 3 percent ferric chloride, 3 percent copper sulphate and 3 percent alum. 1993-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/3902 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Dye plants Dyes and dyeing—Textile fibers Biology
