Summary: | With the increasing cost of construction materials and with the present economic situation, building a house has become a burden to low income families. Thus, there is a need to develop and produce alternatives for basic construction materials that is within the reach of many people.Researchers have developed an alternative material that will partially replace portland cement in concrete mixture, it is called pozzolana. One form of pozzolana is the Rice Hull Ash. Rice hull have been given much attention because when it is burned at a controlled temperature and ground to a specific fineness, will behave like a cementitious material with the present of calcium hydroxide. The study will use the Rice Hull Ash (RHA) as part of the cementitious material combined with Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) to produce concrete samples. The compressive strength of these concrete samples will then be tested and will be compared to that of a concrete which uses only OPC as its cementitious material. |
