A survey on the prevalence rate of intestinal-helminthic parasites among residents of Sitio San Antonio, Tunasan, Muntinlupa

Among the residents of Sitio San Antonio, Tunasan, Muntinlupa, 200 fecal samples were collected and examined from 125 households. All fecal samples were examined using the Kato thick smear technique. The infection rates of A. lumbricoides, T. trichiura and hookworm were 34 percent, 4 percent, and 1 percent respectively. Twenty-four respondents with mixed infections of ascaris and trichuris accounted for 12 percent infection rate. Among the different age groups, children had the highest ascaris infection rate of 23 percent and trichuris infection rate of 3 percent. Furthermore, a hookworm infection rate of 0.5 percent was noted among children and teenagers.
