Summary: | Three hundred sixty seven fecal samples from the residents of Barangay Hamog CBPI Reclamation Area, Pasay City were collected and examined for the presence of intestinal parasites. Among the parasitic worms seen were Ascaris lumbricoides (ova) and Trichuris trichiura (ova) which occured singly or as double infections. No hookworms such as Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus were seen. Stool specimen were examined under the microscope using the Kato thick smear technique. The age brackets considered were infants (birth-3 years) children (4-12 years) teenagers (13-19 years) and adults (20 years and above).The age group found to be most infected was the children with an infection rate of 85.6 percent, followed closely by the teenagers with an infection rate of 80.5 percent. Next came the adults with a 57.6 infection rate. The least infected were the infants with an infection rate of 52.6 percent. |
