Summary: | A total of sixteen (16) macrobenthic algal species were collected, preserved, identified and classified from the shorelines of Sabang, Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro. The collected specimen belong to three (3) divisions, three (3) classes, nine (9) orders, eleven (11) families and (fourteen (14) genera. Seven (7) belong to Division Chlorophyta namely Enteromorpha intestinalis, Ulva reticulata, Boergesenia forbessi, Caulerpa racemosa, Halimeda macroloba, H. opuntia and Codium bartlettii three (3) species belong to Division-Phaeophyta namely Padina japonica, Sargassum polycystium and Turbinaria ornata and six (6) species belong to Division Rhodophyta namely Gelidiella acerosa, Halymenia durvillaei, Hypnea pannosa, Gracillaria eucheumoides, G. salicornia and Acanthophora specifera. The sixteen (16) species of macrobenthic algae collected were found to be used as food, feeds, fertilizers, sources of agar, algin and insecticidal substances.The range of pH of the sampling sites was found to be from 6.5 to 7.5 salinity was from 31.3 to 32.5 ppt. and water temperature was from 26.5 to 27.8 centigrade. The substrate type of the sampling site was predominantly sandy-rocky. |
