Description
Summary:This study compares the use of particleboard and plywood as sheathing materials in concrete formworks. The research tackles the analysis of the mechanical and physical properties, over-all durability and workability, and economy of use of particleboard in comparison to plywood. The investigation involves surveys, physical and mechanical tests, simulations of actual conditions during concrete pourings, and a comparative costs analysis. The findings of the group is that particleboard has positive applications in concrete formworks especially where the usage of the forms is non-repetitive. On the other hand, if the usage of the forms is to be maximized, then the use of plywood is deemed more economical. The tests performed evaluated the physical and mechanical properties of both plywood and particleboard. Hence, this research work serves as a reference text for formwork engineers and designers when reviewing and planning their project.
