Summary: | Lahars have claimed so much menace to us that productive uses for it must be implemented. The substitution of lahar to river sand in the manufacture of hallow blocks is proposed. The compressive strength and unit cost of production are the two main aspects of consideration in comparing the lahar-sourced hollow block with the conventional river sand hollow block. Sampling of lahar would come from a specific location in Sta. Barbara, Pampanga while river sand sampling would come from Montalban, Rizal and Floridablanca, Pampanga. The corresponding costs of hauling theses resources would also be taken into consideration. This study shows that the use of lahar as a fine aggregate in the manufacture of concrete hollow blocks is favorable both in terms of strength and unit cost. |
