Summary: | Maintaining a constant level of temperature in electrical, mechanical and steam systems(specifically in places dealing with high heat, moving objects or hazardous areas) is necessary to prevent any breakdown or destruction of devices. Monitoring of temperature helps to avoid the costs of replacing parts due to overheating and it can make the system work efficiently.Infrared pyrometers allow users to measure temperature in applications where conventional sensors like the thermocouple, thermistor and RTD cannot be employed. It can be used to measure temperature from any object whether it is stationary or moving, at very high temperatures, or where contact is not possible due to hazardous reasons. This thesis is aimed at constructing a non-contact thermometer that would provide an accurate measurement of temperature from any object. Given an infrared pyrometer that has the capability of measuring temperature, the group is concerned on designing and constructing a circuit that would make the infrared pyrometer produce an output that is linear in the sense that for every constant increment at the output of the sensor, there is a corresponding temperature reading. And to obtain the temperature reading of an object (which is digital), a circuit would also be constructed to convert the analog output of the infrared pyrometer to a digital value which is the actual temperature. |
