In vivo test on the efficacy of Peperomia pellucida ( ulasiman-bato ) poultice against induced staphylococcal skin infection in rabbits

Peperomia pellucida (ulasiman-bato and pansit-pansitan in Tagalog) was tested in vivo in rabbit models for its antimicrobial activity. Skin abscesses were induced in 14 live rabbits by inoculating intradermally with 24 hour old cultures of Staphylococcus aureus. Warm poultice of the stems, leaves an...

Santiago, Fe Enciso Peperomia pellucida (ulasiman-bato and pansit-pansitan in Tagalog) was tested in vivo in rabbit models for its antimicrobial activity. Skin abscesses were induced in 14 live rabbits by inoculating intradermally with 24 hour old cultures of Staphylococcus aureus. Warm poultice of the stems, leaves and roots of the medicinal plant was prepared and applied over the abscesses. Rates of healing as indicated by diameter of involved area and amount of pus were compared with those of mupirocin (a commercially available topical anti-staphylococcal drug) and control (no treatment). Results showed that indeed pansit-pansitan had significant antimicrobial properties as shown by its ability to treat staphylococcal skin infections such as abscesses and boils. 1995-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/4149 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Peperomia--Therapeutic use Botany (Medical) Rabbits—Diseases--Treatment Staphylococcal infections--Treatment Biology
