Summary:The growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli were observed in nutrient agar medium (control) and in plain agar with broth from rootcrop peelings of Manihot esculentum Pohl. (cassava), Ipomeae batatas (L.) Lamk (sweet potato), and Dioscorea alata L. (yam). Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli did not grow in plain agar with yam broth. E. coli grew in plain agar with cassava and sweet potato broth. The colonies were white, circular, convex in shape and mucoidal. S. aureus did not grow in any of the media except nutrient agar. The colonies formed in nutrient agar were yellowish, and circular in shape.
