Effects of the administration of varying dosages of diclofenac sodium on the gastric mucosal and renal histology of mice

A study was conducted to determine the effects of the different dosages of diclofenac on the gastric mucosal and renal histology of mice. Twelve mice were grouped into four and they were injected intramuscularly with 8 mg/kg, 16 mg/kg, 32 mg/kg and 64 mg/kg dosages of diclofenac. Three mice were inj...

Sy, Caren Jennefer T. Three mice were injected with normal saline solution to serve as control. The mice were exposed for a period of one week and then were sacrificed. Their stomachs and kidneys were dissected out, placed in 10% formalin and then processed for light microscopy. Examination of the stomach revealed that various cellular changes had occurred in the gastric mucosa of mice, such as the disruption of the surface epithelium swelling, and vacuolation of the cells of the gastric glands. It also revealed the detachment of the mucosa from the submucosa, and the submucosa from the muscularis externa. Histological examination of the kidney showed swelling of glomerular tufts proliferation of capsular epithelium cellular degeneration of the renal convoluted tubules and cellular swelling. Vacuolation or reticulation of epithelial cells had occurred in the renal mucosa of mice. In both gastric and renal cases, the varying dosages of diclofenac showed no relation with the degree of damage that had occurred. 1997-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/4117 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Diclofenac Gastric mucosa Mice—Histology Kidneys—Histology Biology
