Summary: | Three imported and three local brands of bottled mineral water sold in markets in Metro Manila were studied. Five samples from each brand were collected and analyzed in terms of heterotrophic plate counts (HPC) and most probable number (MPN) of coliforms. Results showed that one of the six brands tested, a local brand, did not conform with the standards set by the Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) for bottled mineral water in terms of HPC. Two out of the five samples from this local brand named Summit, were shown to have > 10 4 cfu / mL. The remaining brands of bottled mineral conformed with the BFAD standard in terms of HPC. All the brands acquired a coliform count of <3MFN/100 mL. The remaining brands of bottled mineral water conformed with the BFAD standard in terms of HPC. All the brands acquired a coliform count of < MPN/100 mL which is within the acceptable level of BFAD standards for bottled mineral water. |
