Experimental exposure of laboratory mice with metacercariae obtained from Lutianus malabaricus (local name: maya-maya)

A study was conducted to identify the digenetic trematode infecting Lutianus malabaricus (local name: maya-maya), collected from Imus Central Wet Market located at Imus Cavite. Metacercariae were obtained from the muscle tissues of Lutianus malabaricus using artificial digestion method. Mice were ex...

Metacercariae were obtained from the muscle tissues of Lutianus malabaricus using artificial digestion method. Mice were experimentally exposed to metacercariae in two different dosages, ranging from 24 to 84 metacercariae per 0.5 ml and 54 to 189 metacercariae per 1.0 ml of homogenate obtained from digestion method, and were examined for the presence of adult trematode 4 to 6 weeks post exposure. Intestines (small and large), lungs, heart, and liver of the mice were examined. No infection of digenetic trematode was observed instead, nematodes, specifically Syphacia obvelata, and tapeworm (possibly belonging to Family Hymenolepididae) infection were noted. 1998-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/4045 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Helminths—Hosts Mice--Parasites Lutjanidae--Parasites Biology
