The purpose of this study is to investigate the level of awareness and attitudes of public and private school teachers in Makati City. Along with this study would also like to find out the common reasons that the teachers think for the behavior of the students with symptoms of ADD. The common labels and methods used by the teachers on their students with symptoms of Attention Deficit disorder were also part of the purpose of the study. To gather subjects for the study, a list of private and public schools in Makati City was requested from the Department of Education, Culture, and Sports. The random sampling method was used to select the schools who will participate. There are two instruments used to obtain the teachers' awareness on the symptoms of Attention Deficit Disorder and their attitudes. A survey questionnaire was used to measure the awareness on the manifestations of ADD. It was first pre-tested in Colegio San Agustin-Makati before it was formally distributed to the participants. The other instrument, an attitude scale on ADD was used to measure the teachers' attitude on the symptoms of ADD. Before it was distributed, the researchers asked two experts on ADD to content validate the two instruments. After collecting the survey questionnaires and attitude scale, the data was then tabulated and analyzed. The results of the study showed that teachers in general have little information on ADD particularly on its behavioral manifestations. They rely much on family related and attributed as the root cause of children's inappropriate behavior. The presence of labeling also supported the lack of the teachers' awareness on the different psychological disorders that a child may posses. In spite of the low awareness of teachers on the symptoms of ADD, the study showed that teacher still have a favorable attitudes towards those students who manifest the signs of ADD. 1998-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/4022 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Attention-deficit-disordered children Teachers—Attitudes Teacher-student relationships Psychology
