Description
Summary:This study aims to determine and differentiate the self-destructive behaviors manifested by males and females, and to determine and differentiate the precipitating and predisposing factors that lead to self-destructive behavior. 4 males and 4 females (n=8), ranging from 16 to 40 years old were interviewed in-depth. A close or significant person in the respondent's life were also interviewed to gather more information about the respondents. Most of the self-destructive behaviors that were identified were done physically and were directed towards the self like compulsive eating and hitting one's self. These were manifested by male and female respondents. The most common precipitating factors identified were irritation, jealousy and anger, while the most common predisposing factors were anger and pressure. The predisposing factors were the main cause of self-destructive behavior, while the precipitating factors triggered the person to do self-destructive behavior.
