Summary: | An alternative method to detect and monitor red tide toxins was developed. In this method, the samples were initially fractionated through an ion-exchange column and further purified by HPLC with a refractive index detector. The toxins were detected after each purification process by electrospray ionization mass spectrophotometry (ESI-MS). In addition, varying amounts of arginine and adenosine were added to the crude extract of saxitoxin. The effect of this on the death time was determined. |
