A study on the different alternatives in reusing concrete wastes generated by new vertical construction projects in Metro Manila.

Concrete waste is the excess concrete generated by the construction, re-modeling, repair, alteration or demolition of residential, commercial, government or institutional buildings, industrial or commercial facilities, roadways and other engineering structure. This thesis deals with the different al...

Barredo, Cristina S. Dela Cruz, Larsen Concrete waste is the excess concrete generated by the construction, re-modeling, repair, alteration or demolition of residential, commercial, government or institutional buildings, industrial or commercial facilities, roadways and other engineering structure. This thesis deals with the different alternatives currently being practiced by new vertical construction projects situated in Metro Manila on reusing fresh and hardened concrete waste. A total of twelve (12) vertical construction projects were surveyed. Case studies of three (3) projects are also included to enable the reader to compare the results more extensively. In this study, it is concluded that the average amount of concrete waste in percentage (%) generated by new vertical construction projects is 1.56%, which is 78m from a total of 5000 m3. In large-scale projects, the most practiced method in reusing fresh concrete waste is to use it in special forms. On the other hand, the more preferred alternative for small-scale projects would be to reuse their fresh concrete waste in structural forms such as columns, beams and slabs. The most common source of concrete waste in vertical projects come from the excess concrete left in the hopper and from the pipes blowback , both of which are the excess concrete left inside the pipes used for pumpcreting. In small-scale projects, most of the wastes come from not only the hopper and blowback, but also from wrong estimates. Large-scale projects depend most on a good estimate to reduce the generation of concrete waste. On the other hand, back up forms were the most popular waste preventive method used in small-scale projects. 2000-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/4386 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Concrete, Concrete construction Civil Engineering
