Genotoxic effects of lentrek on Allium cepa L. (Onion)

Allium cepa (onions) were grown in water containing various concentrations of Lentrek, a common termicide. The concentration used were 0.4 ml/L, 0.8 ml/L, and 1.2 ml/L. The effects of the various concentrations of Lentrek on root growth, root length and root morphology, cell division and chromosome morphology were studied. Results showed that Lentrek inhibit root growth and cell division and cause swelling of root tips in bulbs treated in 0.4 ml/L, 0.8 ml/L and 1.2 ml/L concentrations. Mitotic aberrations including c-mitosis, Oblique mitosis, chromosome bridges, disoriented chromosomes, precocious chromosomes, laggards, sticky chromosomes and fragments were also observed
