Summary:Many areas of the world are seismically active and subject to destructive earthquakes. Geologists, seismologist, geotechnical engineers, structural engineers and others work together in these areas to protect the public from excessive earthquake related damage and injury. Simplified methods of analysis are proposed for estimating probable settlements in either saturated or unsaturated sand deposits subjected to earthquake shaking. It is suggested that the primary factors controlling induced settlements are the cyclic stress ratio and maximum shear strain induced in saturated sands by the earthquake shaking and the cyclic strains induced in dry sands, together with the SPT N-value of the sand and the magnitude of the earthquake. It should be recognized that even under static loading conditions, the error associated with the estimation of settlements in sands is on order of 25.50%. It is therefore reasonable to expect less accuracy predicting settlements for the more complicated conditions associated with earthquake loading. The primary objective of the study is to develop an evaluation tool that can efficiently, assess and analyze the estimation of earthquake-induced settlements given the borehole data and earthquake data. A tool that will know the factors that leads to the settlements induced by earthquakes and to evaluate a measurement of soil settlements caused by earthquakes. Thus, acquiring a tabular and graphical output of soil settlements caused by earthquakes.
