Summary:Due to the depletion of forest tree species in the country, this study aimed to use an alternative method of propagating two of the most important and industrial trees in the Philippines, Molave (Vitex parviflora Juss.) and Philippine teak (Tectona philippinensis Benth.& Hook. f.). It involved stem cuttings of the two trees species in 4 replicates treated with IBA and/or NAA in different concentrations (500 ppm, 1000ppm) for 30 minutes, then placed in a non-aerated hydroponic system. The water inside the utility basket was changed every other day as maintenance until it reached 50 days after treatment of the stem cuttings. Rooting responses, whether there was callus formation or presence of few or profuse roots, and viability of the stem cuttings were determined later. It was found out that for both plants, treating the stem cuttings in 1000 ppm of IBA yields the best rooting, and that any treatment compared to no treatment of hormones produces better rooting responses. It is suggested that farmers financially unable to buy the necessary resources for planting soil medium make harvesting of stem cuttings in non-aerated hydroponic system as one of their options, for it would appear cheaper and more practical.
