Description
Summary:Image processing is done to facilitate transmission, printing and storage of pictures. One of the main ideas of image processing is to restore an image to its original state or to enhance specific features to have an improvement in the quality of the image, even without the knowledge of the source of degradation. The wavelet transform was the method chosen since wavelets allow for local signal modification. Most of the algorithms currently available for image enhancement are for use in the spatial domain. The DIME system is a software which applies these algorithms and methods in the wavelet domain. Instead of manipulating the pixel values directly, the system manipulates the pixel coefficient values to enhance an image. The enhancements available to the system are brightness change, contrast change, sharpness change, speckle remover and scratch remover. For the first three enhancements, the amount of change to be performed on the image has to be specified by the user. The user also has the option of enhancing either the whole or just a part of the image. The system only accepts images of Bitmap, JPEG or TIFF format, but can process images of any size.
