This study sought to provide a comprehensive picture of the parent involvement activities of a selected progressive preschool in Metro Manila based on Epstein's typology of parent involvement which consisted of six types: (1) parenting, (2) communication from the school, (3) volunteering, (4) learning activities at home, (5) decision-making, and (6) collaboration and exchange with community organizations. Specifically, the study aimed to find out: (a) how and to what extent does the school extend such parent involvement activities to the child's parents, (b) how and to what extent do parents are involved, (d) reasons of parents of their involvement/non-involvement of parents and (e) benefits that parents administrators, teachers and parents get from the parent involvement activities? The perspectives of seven teachers and fifteen parents were sought in the in-depth investigation of the selected preschool's parent involvement activities. It utilized two data gathering tools, namely the guide interview and document analysis. The selected progressive preschool highly advocates parent involvement activities similar to the Epstein Typology Model. The five components of the model were reflected in the school's parent involvement activities. The teachers believe that they have been providing enough parent involvement activities. The parents assessed themselves as actively participating in the parent involvement activities. The teachers supported this well and accordingly, the rate of parent participation is high. Teachers and parents believe that parent involvement is important to the child's learning, growth and development. Parents participate in the parent involvement activities for they know that they play a significant role in their child's education and success. The school's attitude toward parents also influenced parents to be involved. The study also reveals the benefits that administrators, teachers, and parents receive from the parent involvement activities. Administrators and teachers develop a stronger relationship with the parents, which further allowed them to provide the necessary needs for the children and for the parents as well. Parents, on the other hand, learn more about their child as well as develop a relationship with the administrators, teachers and fellow parents. The results of the study point to the importance of implementing and providing effective and meaningful parent involvement activities for it gives such high regards to the growth and development of learners and it aides the quality of the school and also gives affirmation to what the roles of parents are and should be. 2007-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/4902 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Education—Parent participation Early Childhood Education |
