Terrorism is considered as the contemporary threat to world peace, especially those perpetuated by Muslim fundamentalists, such as the Al Qaeda and its subgroups scattered in the Southeast Asian nations. Despite counter-terrorism efforts by the United States and its allies, terrorist attacks have become global and more frequent. The most tragic so far is the 9/11 incident this has affected not only the United States but also the whole world. The September 11 attacks threatened the stability of both the economy and national security of the United States. It is imperative that at this particular stage in the fight against terrorism we must review and go over present strategies designed against terrorism and try to determine its likelihood of success. The study will mainly focus on the military strategy of the United States on its war against terrorism in the Southeast Asian region. The group will research on the origin of terrorism in the region, the different forms of terrorism and the terrorist groups and their attacks on each country. The study will also find out the military aid and security assistance given by the United States to two particular countries in Southeast Asia: the Philippines and Thailand. With such data, the group will be able to find out the effectiveness of the military strategy of the United States on its counter-terrorism in Southeast Asia. The relevance of the study lies in proving that the military assistance of the United States for the Southeast Asian third world countries is effective in preventing and eradicating terrorist attacks in the region. The group's strategy is to gather information regarding the present military strategy of the United States against Muslim fundamentalists in Southeast Asia that are considered as the stronghold of contemporary terrorism, and likewise, to determine the significance of its outcome how it helped the countries in the war on terrorism. In the end, the group would want to come up with a bigger picture of the war on terrorism in Southeast Asia and draw conclusions regarding the effectiveness of the U.S. contemporary military tactics.
