After identifying group composition and gender preference as variables, two focus group discussions were conducted to generate items for a survey instrument to be developed. The output was a 34-item questionnaire using a 5-point Likert-type scale that was fielded to 120 participants. The questionnaire consists of factors to be considered in the selection of a task group mate as well as items on the preference of group composition and gender of partner. The results showed that both male and female respondents prefer to have a female partner. In terms of group composition, female respondents prefer to be grouped with 1 female and 2 males, and male respondent prefer to be grouped with 1 male and 2 females. Results also showed that female respondents consider dominance and efficiency as important factors in choosing a group mate.
