Summary:This study will cover the political processes in the Province of Maguindanao on the Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), from the ratification of the 1987 Constitution on February 2, 1987 to its inauguration (ARMM) on November 6, 1990. This period will be referred to as the politics of transition. The study intends to analyze Maguindanaon leaders as major players in the politics of transition. The author will use documentary analysis. A historical overview of the problem will be given. The Records of the 1986 Constitutional Commission and the House of Representatives providing for its establishment will likewise be used in addition to newspaper accounts. The leaders involved will all be interviewed. This study as a whole will give insights on the Maguindanaon leadership and the role of three Maguindanaon leaders: Michael O. Mastura, Zacaria A. Candao, and Guimid P. Matalam, in the creation of the ARMM.
