The role of resilience on the well being of the Filipino poor

The purpose of this study is to determine the factors that contribute to the resilience of the Filipino poor who belong to 20-60 years of age. Content analysis was used to qualitatively analyze data from the interviews conducted. The results have shown the three factors which are: (a) Personality Traits and Disposition (b) Family Protective and Recovery Factors and Community Strengths specifically describing fifteen (15) descriptive categories which are: family, friends, religiosity, health, simplicity, leisure, humor, optimism, good relations, helpfulness, togetherness, damayan, resourcefulness, activities, surroundings, and goal-oriented contribute to their resilience. This also indicates that these three factors are seen and treated in equal levels by the urban poor. The fifteen categories which are: humor, optimism, resorucefulness, 'damayan', and being involved in activities. These characteristics enable resilience and develop the well being of the urban poor.
