Summary: | This study determined the diversity and breeding index of mosquito larval populations in randomly selected barangays of Caloocan City. It also determined the physico-chemical quality of the breeding sites of the larval mosquito. Mosquito larva surveys were conducted in all possible breeding habitats using a standard dipping method. Larvae collected were reared to 4th instar larvae and classified using a morphological key. Breeding index and Diversity index were computed for each breeding site. Breeding habitats water quality was assessed for dissolved oxygen, pH, conductance and salinity. Results showed that there are three mosquito larvae present in the breeding sites in all three barangays. These mosquitoes were Aedes sp., Anopheles sp. and Culex sp.. Among the three, Aedes sp. was the most common genera among larval mosquitoes identified. No significant differences were observed between the breeding index and the paramaters pH, salinity and conductance (P>0.05) except dissolved oxygen (P |
