Dagdagan, Victor Joseph M. Waste utilization is incorporating waste materials in the current technology to seek ways to improve the technology as well as help the environment. Previous studies have incorporated the use of fly ash and mussel shells into construction materials as partial cement replacement. The studies have shown that the materials have potential to be use as they increase the compressive strength and provide lower overall cost for the finished product. A recent study used plastic as partial substitution for aggregates in concrete hollow blocks which resulted decrease in compressive strength. With fly ash and mussel shells being able to improve the strength of concrete mixes, the study was done to examine whether fly ash and mussel shells would be able to make an impact in concrete hollow blocks with plastic waste aggregates. The study used varying amounts of fly ash and mussel shell, ranging from 0% to 30%, which was used as partial replacement to cement in concrete hollow blocks with and without plastic waste aggregates. There was a total of 320 samples used in this study. It was found that fly ash and mussel shell could also increase the strength of concrete hollow blocks with plastic waste aggregates, but only in select mixes for some mixes, there would be na increase in compressive strength at the 14th day only, 28th day only, or on both days. 2017-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/14884 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Aggregates (Building materials)--Testing Construction Engineering and Management |
