Concentrations of cadmium, lead and zinc in macrobenthic algae, water and sediments in Sual Bay, Pangasinan
Algae, water and sediments collected from Sual Bay, Pangasinan were analyzed for total Cd, Pb, and Zn content using the atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Sample collection was done three times from June 5 to July 31, 1992. Light intensity, water temperature, pH as well as depth were also measured...

Sample collection was done three times from June 5 to July 31, 1992. Light intensity, water temperature, pH as well as depth were also measured. The brown alga Sargassum was subjected to statistical treatment because it was present in all stations throughout the collecting period. Analysis of variance and test on differences between means at a = 0.05 level showed significant differences on the obtained mean concentration per station on Pb and Zn in water and sediment, and sediment respectively. However, no significant variation were observed on the mean concentration of Cd per station. Analysis regarding the mean concentration per collection of Cd, Pb and Zn in algae, water and sediments were insignificant. Furthermore, the results also revealed that the amount of Cd, Pb and Zn in the algae was below the World Health Organization recommended limit for food of 0.01 mg/L, 2.56 mg/g and 2.00 mg/L respectively and therefore does not pose any immediate hazard to man. 1993-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/5694 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Cadmium Lead Zinc Marine algae Marine sediments x5 Sediments, Marine Biology |
