Description
Summary:Duplicitious is the word which properly describes the province of Capiz. Bataka ka dungan: isa ka kasaysayan (The call of the double: a history) attempts to reconstruct a fictionary history using the leitmotif of the Dungan or Double in which the story of one woman tells the sory of the entire Capiznon society. As a story about story telling, this screenplay explores the multitude of possibilities which the concept of the Dungan (note: although phenomenological in nature, this is not the same as the western concept of The Other as conceived by Sartre) offers in terms of content (elements), form (principles) and purpose of fiction, history and communications/art theory. Presented as a metanarrative, this screenplay points out to 3 postmodern views which history and fiction share: a)both are shaped by verisimilitude rather than objective truth, b)both are identified as linguistic constructs, c)both are equally intertextual.
