Mabborang, Paul Daniel T. Santos, Dennis Christian A. Bamboo is widely recognized as an attractive alternative for use in the construction industry. Its mechanical properties are comparable to some of the common materials used in the construction. However, producing and designing joints and connection for bamboo is a challenge. In order to utilize bamboo in construction, proper detailing of connections is necessary. Exploring various connection types may contribute to the ease in constructing bamboo structures while ensuring structural safety. In this regard, three types of connection methods were considered in the study. The first connection type considers both node and cement mortar. This connection is typically used in construction and served as the basis of comparison. The second type considers only a cement mortar. On the other hand, only the node is considered in the third type. The strength and cost of each connection were compared and evaluated. Based on SIO 22156 (bamboo structural design), tests on joints were carried out in accordance with ISO 6891 which is applicable for joints made with mechanical fasteners. One-way analysis variation (ANOVA) was performed to assess potential differences between each type of connection, The ANOVA suggests that the tensile load capacity is highly dependent to the design and composition of the connection. The results also yielded a 16% difference in strength in terms of allowable tensile load between the first and second connection methods while also having a 27% price difference. The third connection method obtained the lowest strength and price difference among all the connection methods. The second connection method is found to be more convenient and cheaper to be used in bamboo construction. The findings of the study may benefit the construction of low-cost housing that utilize cement bamboo frames. The study can also be used as reference for further developing bamboo connections. 2018-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/5786 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Cement Building materials Bamboo
