Description
Summary:This study evaluates the combustion efficiency of fluidized bed combustion of sugarcane bagasse. This bagasse is presently used as feed for boilers but due to its susceptibility to breakdown, fluidized bed combustor is found to be a better alternative. The bed material used was sand. The experiment was conducted by setting five air flow rates within the fluidizing range. For each flow rate value, five runs were performed by varying the feed rate. The entering air, bed and flue gas temperature were monitored throughout the experiment. An Orsat analysis was conducted to determine the flue gas composition for each trial. From this analysis, the combustion efficiency was then determined. This combustion efficiency was based on the amount of heat available. An optimum combustion efficiency of 65.68 was attained by using a flow rate of 140 Liters per minute, feed rate of 5.7 kg/hr and under a temperature of 446 centigrade.
