Description
Summary:The primary concern of this study was to relate the effectiveness of aerated bioreactors for Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) reduction purposes. Two particular types of reactor were used: An aerated column/fixed bed reactor and an aerated fixed bed. In line with this, oxygenation efficiency, volumetric mass transfer coefficient (KALS and KAGL), and COD reduction per unit residence time were evaluated at different aeration rates. Oxygenation efficiency was found to be independent of aeration rate while mass transfer coefficient and COD reduction per unit time improved at increasing degrees of aeration.
