This study describes the child-rearing practices of separated and unwed mothers in the realm of independence training and disciplining. Data were gathered through the survey and interviews and were analyzed through frequencies, Chi-square, and content analysis. This study encompasses the development of emotional security, teaching money management, and enhancing a sense of responsibility by assigning household chores. Disciplining is observed through the types of punishments and rewards given by the respondents to their children. The results of the study showed the common practices utilized by the subjects of different socioeconomic levels, the significant differences in child-rearing practices employed which indicates the likelihood of the mothers to resort to a particular technique and the reasons for choosing such means in raising their children. The reasons were discussed in the context of explaining the inferences drawn from the study.
