Cali86 is a system that acts as an assembler, interpreter and a debugger for assembly language programs. Moreover, the system also acts as an illustrator, as it presents an illustration of what is actually happening in the system when assembly programs are executed, i.e. on a line-by-line basis (UY, 2003). The system accepts as input an 8086 assembly language program. The system then interprets the program line-by-line and displays screen and terminal output. For every line that is interpreted, the system generates diagrams to show how the data involved is executed internally in an computer system (UY, 2003). The system aims to help students grasp the concepts of Assembly Language programming, thereby aiming to improve the clarity of the subject matter.
